oh my god chayya DO NOT GET ME STARTED, OKAY, DO NOT GET ME STARTED ABOUT HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE READ THAT BOOK, and oh my god how much i want to build an altar at ellen raskin’s feet for writing a book for kids that portrays honest and amazing and rounded female characters like TURTLE and ANGELA and FLORA and GRACE and JUDGE FORD and ALL OF THEM, ughhhh I honestly think that book did more to shape how i tell stories than anything else i read as a kid because every single character, from Crow to Sam Westing to Turtle, EVERYONE is fully real and alive, and they have flaws, and there are so many dark themes and yet it manages to stay fun and hopeful and wrapped up in this mystery and like. UGH THE WHOLE CHRIS PLOTLINE and just like. i have never shipped anything harder in my life than adult!turtle/adult!theo and THE FACT THAT ELLEN RASKIN DID ALL THAT SHIT IN A KID’S BOOK OF THAT LENGTH IS NOTHING SHORT OF FUCKING MIRACULOUS OKAY THE END.
