in which nat brings out the sappy sterek in me (not!fic):
gyzym: stiles will NEVER trust derek until scott does
nat: true true true
nat: but it still hurts me
gyzym: like i love stiles, but stiles has TWO PEOPLE
gyzym: HE REALLY TRUSTS
gyzym: AND ONE OF THEM IS HIS DAD, WHO HE DOESN’T REALLY TRUST
gyzym: SO IT’S REALLY
gyzym: JUST
gyzym: SCOTT
gyzym: thus, so long as scott doesn’t trust derek, stiles won’t either
gyzym: because that relationship is too important to him
nat: I love his total loyalty but I have such a hard time untangling the pain it causes him
nat: I just
nat: I really want to know WHY scott is the only person in his life
gyzym: oh, because his self-worth is so low
gyzym: scott’s been around long enough that stiles doesn’t worry about it with him
gyzym: stiles doesn’t worry that scott is going to leave him
gyzym: he worries scott is going to die, because he worries everyone is going to die, because of course he does
gyzym: constantly
gyzym: but he doesn’t worry that scott’s going to leave him if he’s not [whatever] enough
gyzym: and on some level
gyzym: he thinks everyone else will
gyzym: on some level he thinks his mother did
gyzym: because he was too young when it happened to recognize that it couldn’t possibly have been his fault
gyzym: he thinks it WAS his fault
gyzym: we saw him think it was his fault
gyzym: and that certainty has colored every relationship he’s had, or tried to have, since
gyzym: that’s why it’s working out with the werewolf stuff
gyzym: because these situations come up where they NEED him, inarguably
gyzym: and it’s okay to be around if he’s of use
nat: you’re breaking my heart all over again
gyzym: STILES IS A HEARTBREAKER
gyzym: but it’s okay
gyzym: because here’s what’s going to happen, right
gyzym: in my headcanon
gyzym: for derek and stiles
gyzym: like my real
gyzym: actual
gyzym: long-term one
gyzym: that i may write into a fic once the season ends
gyzym: and i finish this ridiculous mess of an AU
gyzym: is that stiles and derek do start trusting each other, right, largely becausescott and derek comes to this tentative pack sort of agreement and stiles is like
gyzym: GREAT
gyzym: THAT’S AWESOME
gyzym: CAN WE CONCENTRATE ON
gyzym: ALL THE BIGGER PROBLEMS
gyzym: NOW THAT YOU GUYS ARE DONE WITH THE IN-FIGHTING
gyzym: and derek’s kind of wrecked in the wake of how badly he fucked up this season, right
nat: SO BADLY OMG
nat: DEREK
nat: YOU
nat: *GOOBER*
gyzym: i mean, derek’s always kind of wrecked, but in this case i mean his confidence as an alpha
gyzym: I KNOW HE’S TERRIBLE
gyzym: AT EVERYTHING
gyzym: but so when stiles is like
gyzym: HELLO I AM GOING TO LOOK AT ALL OF THESE THINGS
gyzym: AND DEVELOP SOME *PLANS*
gyzym: WITH THE INPUT OF *EVERYONE*
gyzym: LIKE AN *ADULT*
gyzym: DEREK IS LIKE ….WELL FINE IF YOU WANT
gyzym: I GUESS THAT WOULDN’T BE
gyzym: A TERRIBLE THING FOR YOU TO DO
gyzym: NOT THAT I’M ENCOURAGING YOU
gyzym: OR NEED YOUR HELP
gyzym: IN ANY WAY
gyzym: JUST NOT ACTIVELY PLANNING ON KILLING YOU FOR DOING IT, YOU KNOW
nat: GLOWER
gyzym: but then it turns out that stiles’ plans are like…helpful
gyzym: and workable
gyzym: and there were humans in derek’s pack, before
nat: the tragedy continues
gyzym: and he remembers
gyzym: that part of the reason for that was this….clarity
gyzym: that the wolf is always preventing him from reaching
gyzym: because as hard as derek tries he rides on so much instinct
gyzym: and so much of his instinct was corrupted
gyzym: by the fire and what happened after
gyzym: by all these boundaries and rules he understood as factual getting literally reduced to ashes
gyzym: so now in addition to riding on instinct
gyzym: he DOUBTS
gyzym: his every instinct
gyzym: and that makes it so hard for him to find a rational solution, ever
gyzym: because he can’t even claw his way past his gut response, because he’s too busy arguing with himself about it
gyzym: but the thing is, having humans in the pack helps that problem a little, the caught-in-instinct problem, because humans don’t run the way wolves do
gyzym: they don’t heal and they don’t change but they also have more inherent control over themselves
gyzym: over their thought patterns
gyzym: and stiles is helpful
gyzym: and eventually this all comes to a head because derek, i don’t know
gyzym: runs into somebody he used to know (SOMEBODAAAAAAY)
gyzym: or something
gyzym: runs into some piece of his old life
gyzym: and it just hits him
gyzym: that he’s running this pack by the skin of his teeth
gyzym: that they’re surviving on a combination of dumb luck
gyzym: and brute strength
gyzym: and stiles’ plans
gyzym: and boyd’s common sense
gyzym: and one of these days it’s not going to be enough
nat: bfhdsjafbdhjlbfhdjabnd,vbcjkxlzld
nat: cnhjbvchjxzbcds
nat: TELL ME EVERYTHING
nat: (SOMEBODAAAAAAAAY OMG)
gyzym: one of these days someone’s going to come along who is bigger or stronger or smarter, some day he’s going to run out of luck and so he goes to stiles’ house
gyzym: and just kind of breaks in through the window and stiles doesn’t even like
gyzym: flinch
gyzym: at all
gyzym: is just like, what is it this time
gyzym: is it a kraken because if it’s a kraken i win the pool
gyzym: and derek says
gyzym: i don’t know what to do
gyzym: i don’t know what i’m doing
gyzym: and stiles is like
gyzym: ….um, dude, did you think….i missed that memo?
nat: ….KRAKEN
gyzym: what did you think i was doing all this time, trying to get a college credit in occult studies, i know, i get it, you’re clueless
gyzym: and derek is like YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE AND IT WILL BE ALL MY FAULT
gyzym: and stiles kind of
gyzym: puts some stuff together
gyzym: about death and blame and how that works, because stiles KNOWS how that works
gyzym: and he could like, say something about it or whatever
nat: derek is totally not ready to hear that
nat: well maybe at that point
nat: he might be
nat: I don’t know
gyzym: no, he’s not, and stiles knows that, and kind of doubts derek wants to hear him wax rhapsodic on the ills of the human condition—werewolf condition—whatever
gyzym: in any case
gyzym: so he just says
gyzym: okay, well, we could like
gyzym: ….come up with a new training schedule
gyzym: and you could tell me where to go to find information on this that isn’t the internet
gyzym: or tell me what YOU know, since i’m not, you know, a teenage lycanthrope, so telling me stuff i shouldn’t try isn’t likely to make me try it
gyzym: unless you bite me
gyzym: which, please don’t
gyzym: also, would you like a sandwich
gyzym: also, there’s doc deaton, you could explain about doc deaton
nat: …food is love
nat: YES
gyzym: and derek just kind of like
gyzym: lets
gyzym: stiles
gyzym: make him a sandwich
gyzym: and tells him werewolf stuff
nat: TELL STILES WHAT THE DEAL IS WITH DEATON
gyzym: i KNOW RIGHT
gyzym: but they start doing that, right
gyzym: stiles makes food
gyzym: and derek tells him werewolf things
gyzym: and sometimes they watch movies or whatever
gyzym: only, in telling stiles werewolf things
gyzym: sometimes derek ends up, by necessity
gyzym: telling stiles things about his family
gyzym: his pack
gyzym: because that’s how he KNOWS
gyzym: werewolf stuff
gyzym: and honestly i think it’s part of why he’s so bad at teaching—it’s too painful for him
gyzym: to teach these kids
gyzym: the way he was taught
gyzym: in part because he was so young, but in part because to teach them the way he was taught he has to REMEMBER
nat: we are totally on the same page on that one
nat: because teaching is passing on experience
gyzym: but stiles is right, the more information he gives out the easier it will be to keep everyone alive
gyzym: and it’s just stiles
gyzym: and it’s kind of hard to feel like he’s confessing to like
gyzym: great and terrible crimes and the indirect murder of his entire family and all these feelings he can’t have because he’ll drown in them if he lets himself have them he just has to keep running from them just because he’s back in beacon hills doesn’t mean he can’t run
gyzym: because it’s STILES
gyzym: and half the time he listens with his mouth half-open and roast beef like, visible
gyzym: inside of it
gyzym: and he asks ridiculous questions
gyzym: like, constantly
nat: because he’s STILES
nat: who has never, ever backed down
gyzym: yes!! and then one time out of nowhere they’re driving down the main drag of beacon hills and they pass this ice cream shop
gyzym: and stiles says, you know, i haven’t gone in there since my mom died
gyzym: she used to take me every saturday
gyzym: and then quickly changes the subject with a well-timed, ooh, look, I THINK I SEE THE GOLEM
gyzym: but derek kind of…holds onto that little piece of information, right, and the way stiles smelled when it slipped out of him
gyzym: a little shocked, a little afraid, the faintest hint of the salt-smell he associates with human sadness
nat: AHFJDSKFHDJKS
nat: never ever have I wished for a more acute sense of smell, bb
gyzym: I DON’T EVEN HAVE A SENSE OF SMELL
gyzym: I WAS BORN WITHOUT ONE
gyzym: THE SMELL THING IN THIS FANDOM IS GREAT FOR ME
gyzym: BECAUSE I CAN GET IT WRONG
gyzym: AND CRY WEREWOLF
gyzym: but it’s sort of easier after that, right, because there’s sort of this barrier that’s come down a little, and derek wouldn’t ever say out loud that he trusts stiles but is also becoming unsettlingly aware that he does anyway, whether he’ll admit it or not, and they keep going on like this, and stiles’ seventeenth birthday comes and goes
gyzym: and it gets to the point where derek spends most of his time with stiles and boyd, because boyd’s his second, but derek’s relationship with boyd isn’t like the one with stiles
gyzym: because derek remembers what it is to relate to and interact in an alpha-to-beta kind of way, and a first-to-second kind of way, and, really, in a laura-to-derek kind of way, even if he was always on the other side
nat: I FREAKING LOVE BOYD HE NEEDS MORE SCREENTIME
nat: but yes, go on, TELL ME EVERYTHING
gyzym: and boyd’s a werewolf, and has taken to it better than the others, and derek wouldn’t hesitate to say he trusted boyd (to save his life, to make the right call, to be his second, even to support him, which is sort of something derek never thought he’d be able to think about anyone again)
gyzym: and he doesn’t know what that means, exactly
gyzym: why the idea of trusting stiles, even though he knows he does, scares him
gyzym: because if trusting boyd doesn’t scare him
gyzym: trusting stiles shouldn’t either
gyzym: because he’s known stiles longer, and while boyd is a werewolf and stiles isn’t, and boyd is by default more reliable than stiles is in a lot of ways, derek has a bigger advantage over stiles that he does over boyd, because werewolf vs. human is different than werewolf vs. werewolf, even if you’re the alpha
gyzym: and you know derek looks at the world that way, like, “could i fight my way out if i had to”
gyzym: so the point is, it’s clearly not just the trust thing
gyzym: it’s clearly something ABOUT STILES
gyzym: and it’s only after derek comes
gyzym: to THAT conclusion
gyzym: that he recognizes the sexual/romantic intent there
gyzym: because DEREK’S SEXUAL AWARENESS WAS HIDEOUSLY AND HORRIBLY AND TRAUMATICALLY STUNTED WHEN HE WAS FIFTEEN FUCKING YEARS OLD
gyzym: AND IT WOULD TAKE HIM
gyzym: A LONG TIME
gyzym: TO RECOGNIZE ROMANTIC FEELINGS
gyzym: AFTER THAT
gyzym: and yeah sometimes he’s smelled attraction on stiles
nat: HE HAS NEVER ACTIVELY CONFRONTED WHAT HAPPENED WITH KATE, IT’S IN THE SHOW THAT HE NEVER TOLD ANYBODY
gyzym: YES
gyzym: YES
gyzym: HE’S *NEVER* HANDLED IT
nat: IT’S ALL JUST
nat: IN THERE
gyzym: and like, he just figured, when he smelled stiles’ boners, that stiles was a teenage boy
gyzym: and just, you know, prone to that sort of thing
gyzym: but now that he’s aware of it he’s like oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck
gyzym: because a) the idea of romantic involvement scares him
gyzym: b) he equates sex to THE LITERAL MURDER OF HIS ENTIRE FAMILY
gyzym: and c) does this make him kate?
gyzym: so he avoids stiles for like
gyzym: three weeks
gyzym: and after the first week boyd is like
gyzym: dude stiles knows you’re avoiding him
gyzym: and he is obnoxious about it
nat: oh fucking hell, of course he would think that being attracted to Stiles means
nat: he’s doing what kate did
gyzym: but so boyd is all like, stiles is being a pain in my ass, and derek is like whatever i don’t care ALPHAS DON’T HAVE FEELINGS and boyd is like, look man
gyzym: you are my alpha and everything
gyzym: but like
gyzym: if you don’t
gyzym: deal with this
gyzym: and he keeps
gyzym: bothering me?
gyzym: I AM GOING TO FORCIBLY MAKE IT YOUR PROBLEM
gyzym: THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY
gyzym: TO BE FOLLOWED AROUND BY STILINSKI
gyzym: GOING “WHY ISN’T DEREK ANSWERING MY CALLS/COMING OVER/WHATEVER”
gyzym: I AM YOUR SECOND NOT YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE
gyzym: and derek is like fine i’ll deal with it
gyzym: and runs off and hides in the woods like a crazy person instead
gyzym: only eventually stiles finds him
gyzym: because stiles is stiles
gyzym: and worked out how
gyzym: I DON’T HAVE TO KNOW DETAILS IT’S NOT A FIC YET
gyzym: and stiles is like so
gyzym: did i offend you
gyzym: or your werewolf senses
gyzym: have i switched laundry detergents to a degree you find unbearable
gyzym: are you having some kind of
gyzym: stoic manly i’m-secretly-dying type crisis
gyzym: is it my hair?
gyzym: is it my shoes.
nat: AHAHA DEREK THE CRAZY WOOD HERMIT IN THE THROES OF A ROMANTIC CRISIS IF I DON’T LAUGH I’LL CRY
gyzym: and stiles just KEEPS LISTING THINGS
gyzym: THAT IT COULD BE
gyzym: UNTIL EVENTUALLY DEREK IS LIKE
gyzym: FOR GOD’S SAKE STILES SHUT UP
gyzym: and stiles is like, oh, so it’s my VOICE
gyzym: and sits down next to him
gyzym: and derek is like, can’t you just…let it go
gyzym: and stiles is like, you mean, let go of the six months where we worked together and were doing the whole team thing and you told me i was pack and nobody bit the big one
gyzym: no, dude
gyzym: world doesn’t revolve around you
gyzym: you can’t just VANISH INTO THE WOODS because you don’t want to talk to me
gyzym: or to anyone else about why you don’t want to talk to me
gyzym: that’s not like, good alpha behavior
nat: use your words, derek
gyzym: YES EXACTLY
gyzym: and then stiles is like
gyzym: so now we’re going to sit here
gyzym: and you’re going to tell me what’s wrong
gyzym: or you’re going to run away again
gyzym: and i’m going to chase you down
gyzym: tenaciously
gyzym: because tenacity is like, my whole thing
gyzym: my great life skill
gyzym: and eventually you’re going to tell me
gyzym: or SOMEONE
gyzym: because this cannot go on
gyzym: and so derek kind of
gyzym: waffles about it
gyzym: and yells
gyzym: and throws sticks out into the woods
gyzym: and carves up a tree with his claws
gyzym: and then….tells him
gyzym: like, not even nearly all of it
nat: he has A TANTRUM OH MY GOD
gyzym: OF COURSE HE DOES
nat: BECAUSE HE IS KIND OF STILL 15
nat: SOMEWHERE
gyzym: HE HAS A HUGE
gyzym: WEREWOLF
gyzym: SHITFIT
gyzym: THAT STILES JUST WATCHES
gyzym: LEANING AGAINST A TREE
gyzym: WITH HIS ARMS CROSSED
gyzym: AND THIS TIGHT EXPRESSION ON HIS FACE
gyzym: AND NO FEAR SMELL AT ALL
gyzym: but derek tells stiles about kate
gyzym: the like
gyzym: reader’s digest version of the reader’s digest version
gyzym: like i’m pretty sure he just says
gyzym: kate argent and i…dated. when i was your age. younger than you. a little.
gyzym: and stiles fills in most of the gaps just from that
gyzym: because: stiles
nat: crazy smart stiles
gyzym: but the only gap
gyzym: he doesn’t fill in
gyzym: is the one where derek wants to date him
gyzym: because that’s not something that has ever
gyzym: even
gyzym: OCCURRED
gyzym: to stiles
gyzym: because derek is hideously attractive and in his twenties and stiles can’t even get kids in high school to look at him twice
gyzym: so he’s all, so, uh
gyzym: why is this…a problem…now? she hasn’t like, risen from the dead, right
gyzym: because i’m really over people rising from the dead
gyzym: let alone HER, although i guess now it would be kind of satisfying to watch her die again
gyzym: and derek is like
gyzym: i don’t want to put you in a position you don’t want to be in
gyzym: and stiles is like, dude, if kate argent rises from the dead i’m kind of going to be a position i don’t want to be in no matter WHAT
gyzym: and derek is like THAT’S NOT WHAT I MEAN STILES
nat: although I will totally help you kill the shit out of her
gyzym: truth
gyzym: SUCH TRUTH
gyzym: and stiles is like
gyzym: what
gyzym: …oh
gyzym: …OH
gyzym: …dude what makes you think i wouldn’t….
gyzym: …oh my god how long has that…
gyzym: …YOU RAN OFF AND HID IN THE WOODS INSTEAD OF JUST…
nat: USING YOUR WORDS
gyzym: …oh but i guess with the other thing that makes…oh, shit, this is really fucked up for you, isn’t it
gyzym: and derek is just like
gyzym: yes
gyzym: because
gyzym: yes
gyzym: it is
gyzym: and stiles is like, does it help if i’ve totally been hard for you since, like, day one, even if day one it was kind of in a scary way?
gyzym: and derek is like NOT REALLY STILES
gyzym: and stiles is like
gyzym: do you think doc deaton does werewolf therapy
gyzym: and derek just
gyzym: looks
gyzym: at him
gyzym: and stiles is like WHAT MAN OKAY WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO HERE THIS IS KIND OF A LOT FOR A GUY TO PROCESS AFTER HIKING THREE HOURS THROUGH THE UNDERBRUSH AND WATCHING YOU MANHANDLE AN INNOCENT BIRCH TREE
nat: WHAT DID THE TREE DO TO YOU DEREK: NOTHING, THAT’S WHAT
gyzym: and derek just kind of
gyzym: drops his head into his hands
gyzym: and doesn’t say anything
gyzym: because his instincts are a mess
gyzym: and his everything is a mess
gyzym: and as much as he shouldn’t
gyzym: he’s gotten really used to stiles
gyzym: sorting out the complicated problems
gyzym: and presenting derek just
gyzym: the potential solutions
gyzym: and letting derek make the decisions from there
nat: I wonder when the last time he cried was? I’m not saying he’d even be able to at this point, I am just having stray thoughts
gyzym: it was a LONG time ago
gyzym: before the fire
gyzym: he whines in his sleep, sometimes
gyzym: but that’s the closest he gets
gyzym: but anyway, he just kind of drops his head into his hands
gyzym: and after a few minutes he feels stiles’ palm go to the back of his neck and start rubbing, and he almost says something about how werewolves aren’t DOGS, stiles, but he doesn’t, because in this one specific respect there are some concidental similarities and he knows he doesn’t have hackles in this form but he can feel them going down anyway
gyzym: and stiles, really quietly, says, you know what, we spend most of our time defeating cartoon-type monsters
gyzym: so i think we can probably…figure this out
gyzym: like, it’ll probably take awhile
gyzym: because cartoon monsters
gyzym: and also i am….really, super out of my depth
gyzym: like, so out of my depth, derek
gyzym: like my depth was leagues and leagues ago and i just kept swimming and—uh. but.
gyzym: it would…i’d like it. a lot. if we could figure it out
gyzym: without it like, breaking your brain. or mine. or anybody’s.
gyzym: but mostly i’d like it if you came out of the woods….?
gyzym: and derek doesn’t move
gyzym: but he nods
gyzym: and means
gyzym: in a minute
gyzym: and stiles kind of hums his agreement and, for once in his life
gyzym: shuts the hell up
gyzym: and just kind of
gyzym: keeps rubbing for awhile
nat: lets him work it out
nat: in his own time
gyzym: yes yes yes
gyzym: and admittedly working some things out himself
nat: because Stiles is crazy smart, but also really perceptive, emotionally? I think, anyway
gyzym: I AGREE
gyzym: and also
gyzym: stiles a) hadn’t realized derek was a possibility and b) because of that, hadn’t thought through how to handle the potential of derek and his myriad issues
gyzym: but now he’s thinking about it
gyzym: and when they get back he starts reading about like, assorted and sundry issues, because stiles/research for lyfe
gyzym: and so they sort of start…not exactly dating
gyzym: like it’s pretty much exactly the way it was before
gyzym: except now sometimes stiles touches derek
gyzym: or lets derek touch him
gyzym: and derek touches his pack a lot
gyzym: especially on moons and hunts
gyzym: because it’s a physical relationship, an alpha and his pack
gyzym: and so that’s sort of what happens first, is that they start doing THAT kind of touching
nat: of course it is, but that must also be so difficult for Derek, whose ideas of pack are also family and loss
gyzym: which is more contact than derek has had with a human since before the fire
gyzym: yes yes yes
gyzym: like
gyzym: he touches the pack but it’s
gyzym: because he has to
gyzym: and never any more than that
nat: and I will eat my left shoe if he isn’t desperately touch-starved
gyzym: DESPERATELY
nat: but also really, really gun-shy
nat: in that respect
gyzym: and like, that comes out with stiles after a few weeks
gyzym: like the first couple of weeks it’s really
gyzym: tentative
gyzym: and hesitant
gyzym: and derek pulling back a lot
gyzym: and STILES pulling back a lot because he thinks derek wants him to
gyzym: and then one night derek like
gyzym: narrowly averts death
gyzym: and shows up at stiles’
gyzym: and stiles’ dad is out for the weekend
gyzym: and stiles is in his living room watching a movie
gyzym: and derek just kind of
gyzym: crashes down next to him on the couch
gyzym: and stiles looks at him out of the corner of his eye
gyzym: and then looks at him HARD
gyzym: and then looks at the movie for a minute
gyzym: and then kind of sighs and like
gyzym: grabs derek’s sleeve, without looking at him
gyzym: and tugs on it
gyzym: and derek wonders when he worked it out about the eye contact thing
gyzym: and the control piece of that
gyzym: because humans don’t, usually
gyzym: even the humans that had been pack, before
nat: it’s not obvious, given the value humans place on eye contact
gyzym: yes! and even humans derek’s known in the past hadn’t really understood that eye contact and smiling registered a little differently for the wolf in him
gyzym: but stiles doesn’t look at him
gyzym: doesn’t bare-teeth-i-mean-smile
gyzym: he just keeps his eyes on the screen
gyzym: and tugs at derek’s sleeve
gyzym: until derek kind of gives in and leans over
gyzym: fits his face into the curve of stiles’ neck
gyzym: and he just means to do it for a second, right
gyzym: let himself have a second of it, stiles’ familiar scent and the warmth of being touched by another body
nat: but once he’s there
nat: it’s just this huge relief
nat: ?
gyzym: yeah, once he starts he finds he can’t stop
gyzym: once he’s there it’s like his whole body just
gyzym: collapses
gyzym: around stiles’
gyzym: and he’s digging in and pressing his face in closer and if he weren’t so exhausted he’d probably be….something
gyzym: embarrassed, upset, frightened, something
gyzym: but in some ways it’s not unlike the relief of a change on a full moon
gyzym: like there’s been this thing tugging at him all day—all month—all his life
gyzym: and now he can finally release himself to it
gyzym: and above him, stiles huffs out a ghosting sort of laugh and is like
gyzym: that figures
gyzym: it figures that you are, deep down, a champion at cuddling
gyzym: here i sit, with my kid gloves and my coordination issues and this, you know, sort of not-exactly-but-kind-of-totally constant thought that i am just
gyzym: totally fucking this up
gyzym: and you’re holding out on me with the cuddling skills
gyzym: that’s really not fair, derek
nat: bfdhajlgfhdjlfdhslfghdsj
gyzym: and derek almost doesn’t catch what he’s saying
gyzym: because stiles’ fingers are in his hair
gyzym: and stiles is talking, because he’s always talking, but he’s using this
gyzym: new voice
gyzym: the one derek is only just starting to get to know
gyzym: with these softer harmonics and these carefully rounded out vowels
gyzym: so he mostly misses it
gyzym: but he catches enough of it to say, you’re not fucking it up
gyzym: into stiles’ shoulder
gyzym: because STILES
gyzym: that’s RIDICULOUS
gyzym: only derek can’t actually say that it’s ridiculous
gyzym: because he can’t actually express that much emotion
gyzym: so he just says, you’re not fucking it up
gyzym: and it’s weird that that makes stiles smell
gyzym: so….so different
gyzym: like there’s just a piece of his scent that
gyzym: falls away
gyzym: and derek realizes too late that there has been fear-scent on stiles
gyzym: all the time
nat: ghdjfkaghfdjkahfdjk
gyzym: it just wasn’t fear of derek
gyzym: it was old fear
gyzym: it was this fear that was so old that it had just
gyzym: become
gyzym: part of stiles’ scent
gyzym: and it’s gone now
gyzym: and derek’s sure it won’t be gone for long
gyzym: but that’s the first time they kiss
gyzym: derek pushing back off of stiles’ shoulder with wide eyes
gyzym: and stiles looking back at him like he’s something shocking and incredible.
